NITA LOWEY'S 2018 CONGRESSIONAL ARTS COMPETITION RECEPTION MONDAY, APRIL 23, AT WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Nita Lowey's 2018 Congressional Arts Competition Reception held Monday, April 23, from 6-7 PM At Westchester Community College: with students Rose Schwantner, Steven Burns, and Peter Zuidema, along Nita Lowey, Mr. Pocantesta, Mrs. Della Cava, Mr. Martin and Student's families.

PR LIBRARY STUDENT ART SHOW OPENING RECEPTION, APRIL 15, 2018
Over 50 PRHS STUDENTS had a group show at the Paula Bohovesky Gallery at the Pearl River Public Library during the Month of April 2018. An opening RECEPTION was held on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 1:30 – 3:00 PM. Thank you to all who came to view the work and came on Sunday to meet and greet the artists! |
2018 Photographers Forum Winners and Finalists
Six (6) Pearl River HS photography students were selected as FINALISTS in Fuji/Photgraphers Forum Magazine HS student contest. Over 16,000 entries were received from the US, Canada and around the world.
Ava McGuinness, (10) Steven Burns, (10), and Jaclyn Kiggins (10), Marco Farsetta (12), Ptere Zuidema (12) and Aidan Casey (9) each had their photos selected as Finalists. All 6 student’s photos will be published in the hardcover book Best of College and High School Photography 2017, published this spring by the editors of Photographers Forum Magazine. Congratulations to Ava, Steven, Marco, Jaclyn, Peter and Aidan!

Edward Hopper Artistic Curiosity Scholarship ceremony, May 7, 2017: Hopper House Museum, Nyack, NY

Congratulations to Peter Zuidema (11) who was nominated by the art department staff at Pearl River High School for the Edward Hopper Artistic Curiosity Scholarship, from the Edward Hopper House Art Center in Nyack. He was joined by 9 other recipients, one Junior from each school district in the County. Peter was accompanied by his family and art teacher Paul Martin. Coincidentally, Peter’s Grandfather, a local renowned artist, Bob Brebbia, was instrumental in establishing the Hopper House Museum 30 years ago and sat on its BOD for many years. The prestigious award is given out each year to one student from each of Rockland’s public high schools for their interest in the arts. A reception for the winners at the Edward Hopper House Art Center at 82 North Broadway in Nyack was held on Sunday, May 8th from 4-5pm. As a recipient of the Award, Peter received $100 and a 5 year student membership to the Edward Hopper House Art Center. Congratulations to Peter and his family! |

I was asked again by my good friend Alexander Hamilton to bring my WWII jeep, gear and artifacts to Mildred E. Strang Middle school in Yorktown Heights on April 17, 2017 to share some living history with his 8th graders and others. Spent the day and we had a great time teaching the students there!

Lord and Taylor High School Art Exhibit, April 30, 2016: Thanks to the exposure from our Pearl River Library Student Art Exhibit, our students and their work have been recognized by our local community. A special events coordinator from Lord and Taylor at the Palisades Mall saw the Library exhibit, and requested our student’s artwork for display at the L&T store on Saturday, April 30. Coinciding with L&T’s Habitat for Humanity charity day, 9 Pearl River Student artworks were displayed along with works from other school districts in the public areas of the store.

Kayla Terry's photo, "Sunset Grille" was selected as the Grand Prize winner in the Nita Lowey Congressional art competition at last night’s artist reception. Kayla (11) her photo, and her family will be flown down to Washington DC for a reception in June.
Kayla’s photograph, along with others selected from congressional districts around the country, will remain on display in the United States Capitol Building For one year and will be seen by congressmen, senators and millions of visitors.

2016 PTSA Comedy Night Scholarship Fundraiser: Mr. DeMarco, Mrs. Dellcava and Mr. Martin exhibited, sold and auctioned student artwork including pottery, jewelry, notecards and photographs.
